Express entry is an electronic/online system used by the Canadian government to provide permanent residence. It usually consists of two major phases:
1. Eligible candidates indicate interest for express entry.
2. The highest scoring candidates are invited by the Canadian government to immigrate.
The seven steps involved in express entry are:
Step 1. Find out if you’re eligible for express entry.
Step 2. Complete your language testing and obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
Step 3. Submit your profile on IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) website.
After a successful submission of an online profile, the federal government determines the eligibility of the candidate and eligible candidates are accepted into the express entry pool after receiving a CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score. In our previous posts we talked about what a CRS score is and how to get a high CRS score. Step 4. Wait to see if you receive an ITA (Invitation To Apply) from IRCC.
Candidates are invited every 2 (two) weeks.
Step 5. Submit your completed APR (Application for Permanent Residence) to IRCC and pay your fees within the deadline. Your medical exam and police certificate would be submitted alongside. Then IRCC will provide you with an AOR (Acknowledgment of Receipt)
Step 6. Submit your biometrics once IRCC asks you to do so.
Step 7. Wait for IRCC to decide on your APR. This is estimated to take 6 months or less from when a complete APR is received. Once application is approved, you would receive a COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Resident Visa) to enable you travel to Canada and complete your landing.
One of the cons of express entry is, there is no certainty of receiving an ITA.
For a tailored immigration path, a professional immigration consultant needs to guide you through the process. From submitting a complete and correct online profile, having a high CRS score that would increase your chances of getting an ITA, submitting a complete and correct APR that would increase your chances to receive a COPR.
